He giggled at me!!!!

It's been almost a year since I started my little blog. Well, 11 months or so. I wonder if I should continue. I figure when we move to FrancoLand next month, I will have more than enough to blog about. It should prove interesting (to me at least).

I started blogging to keep in contact with my St. Louis friends and to say hello to family. I know I am like Dawn's little morning wake up coffee. But, is it really all the interesting to read? I mean, I bore MYSELF at times. I must say, some of my friends and family might actually know me better from reading my drivel (no, no, make that my amusing antidotes). Let's see, what have you learned? I can't speak French. I am a weeee bit sarcastic. I like cats. I like my kids and hubby. My niece is tiny (wwayyyy tiny as heck!). I sell note cards and invitations. I dress like Hit**r and play N*zi around the house (no, no, make that I actually GET dressed and play Yahtzee on line). (words have been changed at the request of Dawnie . . . see comments) I post nice, good, sometimes great, sometimes not so great pictures. I am a closet artist wannaBe. I am NOT an artist. Oh, well, the list goes on.

But, here is a little insight to my recent life up here in CanadaLand/FrancoLand. I have noticed something lately. The sales clerks are only speaking to me in English. It is happening more and more. They don't even start with French. I didn't really think about it until MainMan and I went to a local mattress store and the clerk said "Hello" to us as we walked into the door. Hubby whispered (hey, he didn't even try to speak French). Now, that didn't surprise me but it did Hubby. So, as the weeks have gone by, I have noticed it more and more. It's not just the grocery store where the clerk may remember me, it's everywhere. Now, when I say everywhere, please remember that I shop in the one area around here that has a lot of English speaking folks. But, this same area spoke to me in French when I first moved here. What has changed?

MY hair. Yep, when I moved here, my hair was long and pretty dark. I tended to pull it back in a pony tail or twist it up in the back. As I look around, that is the style. Sort of brown hair, pulled up in a twist. Not a lot of blond types here. And if they are blond, well, they still have the darker type french sort of skin.

When I got my hair cut, I went back to my natural color. I have always wanted dark hair (make that straight dark hair) but I have given up. It's not all that dark and it surely isn't straight. I have middle aged lady hair now. It's curly, short and sort of blond. I have really white skin, blue eyes and blond hair. I do NOT look French. I look English (in a Canadian sort of way). So, they can see me coming from far away. Why waste French on someone who is obviously not going to speak it back. They think I am from some other province. I look Canadian. It always surprises them if our conversation is long enough for me to tell them I am American. My accent isn't strong enough to give it away. Is it that I don't have what they consider an "American" accent or that I don't have a strong Canadian accent (and yes, Canadians do have accents).

Not sure. But. That's ok. Cause now, if I try to speak French, they love it. Hey, look at that poor Anglo giving it a try. Good for her. However, lets speak English now, cause she is hurting my ears.

Oh, did I tell you that MainMan giggled recently when he heard me say "Bonjour" to someone. He actually giggled!!! Geessh, I must really mangle it if HE is giggling.
(the pictures of flowers are just to add color to the blog, not really to bug Annie . . .really, I promise) snicker

Cause I am a good girl, I did what you suggested. But, just so you know, when I started this blog, I didn't open it up to the "Blogger" search. While I suppose it someone tried hard enough to find this blog, random keyword searches will not bring you to this blog.

However, if you do a google blog search and type in the right words (like whynotvicky, etc), it will bring you to the blog.

I butcher the French language too. After my parents said I couldn't go on the France trip, I stopped working on my accent. I used to have it perfect in 7th/8th grade, with a hint of Chinese >_>;
