Winter is still here, folks

The weather has been really nice for the last month or so. I haven't had to clean off the car to drive, the roads are clean (even the side roads, which are normally white from compacted snow and ice), and there were spots where the grass was peeking through.

It's started to snow again. Not a lot. A couple inches last night. And 2-3 inches to come . . . each day for a week. That will add up.

The cats aren't happy about it. C was used to walking around outside and not getting his feet wet or snow on his back. He came in last night. And looked at me. Why is it MY fault anyway? KC went out last night. A little while later, he was sitting on my desk in front of my keyboard . . . purring. I petted him and then thought-how in the heck did he get inside? He was outside. Everyone was asleep. The only window open was the upstairs bathroom and it wasn't all the open. Plus he has to jump off the roof over nothingness to get to the window. Miss it and its a two story fall. I wonder. Maybe he did, or maybe he woke up #2 and #2 let him in. However, the odds are against that. #2 is very good at not waking up when called by the cats, brothers, fathers or mothers. Oh, well, some mysteries are not meant to be known.
Did I tell you that we got an auto starter for the Santa Fe? Yeah, we took it in the end of January. Had to make an appointment (it was a two week wait). What was the weather and temp that day? Rain and in the 40's. Funny when you think we did it for the sub zero weather. And we haven't had really really cold weather since. Hmmmm . . . maybe this strange weather is our fault. Cool-next year we will do another car if it works that way.

Writer's block

Dear Dawn,

Blogs are interesting little fellows. They demand daily attention, least they roll over and die. But the bloggie has to have something to write about, or the will to write about nothing (I am good at the latter). Not lately though. I will have to be more dedicated to my little offspring.

So, here goes . . . a blog about nothing. Or maybe a blog about the lack of snow. Yeah, that's a good, interesting blog thing.

Snow: We haven't had a lot in the last month. I think it all went down south. Yep, I am pretty sure it went to the states. Plus, it hasn't been really cold. Hey, we have had days above freezing! Some snow melted and the roads, driveways and sidewalks were totally clear. Weird. But good.

Grass in the middle of winter? Yep, there it is. Sad looking, isn't it? Maybe it's better to cover it with snow until spring.

And the cat can reach his little house. He has gone it in a few times. But why when it is in the 20's? His fur is very full and soft. He is more than protected from the weather. I guess that is the advantage of being a Canadian Cat. Whereas, KC just doesn't go outside. He is even shedding!!(and he is grumpy too-he needs spring!)

And Dawn, just for you, a picture of a road with a car on it.

I normally wait until there isn't any cars to take pictures-safety issues. But, hey-why not. These are roads in the neighborhood. Roads still have mounds of snow along the side of the road, but are perfectly clear.
At least, until today.

Yeah, it snowed last night. Not a lot, maybe 2-3 inches. But enough to cover the grass, etc. And enough to make us have too clean off the cars before driving. I have to say, a month in the middle of winter without cleaning off the van is pretty good.

Now, back to reality.

Mail Call

Mail.

Always nice to open the little mail box and see mail waiting. Today, I op
ened the mail box and there was a little key, some letters, junk mail and a plastic bag. The little key is to one of the bigger mail boxes. If you receive a package that is too big for the mail box, they put it in a bigger box and put the key to that box in your box (confused yet?). I got my little Christmas bell ornament. I have been collecting these since MainMan and I were married. Since there isn't a Macy's close by, I had to order it.
(I removed our address so MainMan wouldn't have to lecture me on bloggie safety things)
I went home and was looking at the mail. Hmmmm. The clear plastic bag was filled with pieces of mail. Yeah, pieces. Ohhh, how nice. We received Marilyn and Dave's Christmas card with their yearly letter.

No reading the letter, but I could see the card was cute kitties . . . aaaahhhhhhh. And something written about snow and it melting (I suppose this could be a hint of when the card was sent). That's all I figured out-more than half of the card and letter were gone. What was left was in pieces.
See folks-even Canada Post can eat mail . . . just like USPS. :)

Why do I try to bowl?

I went bowling (with the little balls) on Friday. It has been a few months since I have gone. While they have asked me, I have declined . . . cause I suck at it. Yep, I said it. But I decided I should go because they will quit asking eventually. And besides, I should get out. Uh huh-right. So off I go with L and M. They pick me up. It's cold. Their car door is frozen.

Once we get to the alley, its warm and toasty. I am placed on a team with . . . 3 men. The women are absent. (Teams are 5) The team captain (I think) only speaks French. Lizette introduces me. Hi Mr French guy. He tells me when practice time starts (I think). And then he decides I need some advice. Now picture this folks-I am standing up there on the lane with a guy who is speaking to me in French telling me how to bowl. Uhhh huh. He asks me how many steps I normally take with my approach (I think). Hell, I don't know. But I say 4. It's all different than regular bowling (you know-with the big balls). So he shows me how to do it. Then he walks behind me and shows me. Let's stop here. Have I mentioned that MY personal space is much bigger than French Canadian's personal space? I do believe I have. So, anyway, the guy is standing RIGHT behind me. He sort of pats/rubs my back. Now, it was a nice little pat and not all that weird if coming from a friend (like Jeff) but coming from a complete stranger . . .

I try a couple times and let's just say, a great bowler I am NOT.

Then the oldest guy of the team walks up and says-Oh, don't do it that way, just walk up and roll it at the line. Don't look at the pins, just place it on the lane . . . right here. And yeah, he pats me too. I am getting a lot of advice and lots of little pats on the back. One guys says throw it slowly (for more control I suppose), French only guy says throw it harder, and it goes on. I bowl, I do good enough-always above my average. However we lose two games and total pins.

Oh, I found out that the team I was on was the first place team. Noooow, I know why they were giving me advice . . . not just for the little pats. They wanted to win.
