Squirrels. Lots of your normal gray guys. But a couple black ones. He sort of looks like he is teasing me a bit. Not really, he was teasing the cats.

Oh remember the feathers in the backyard. I am pretty sure they belonged to a Yellow Flicker. I have seen a couple around. They tend to like to be on the ground (not a great idea around KC), and have the same type of feathers I saw. I think he must have gotten away-KC may have bitten off more than he could handle or was surprised by the bird.

i have never seen a black squirrel that is really cool. i thought they were red or grey. of course it is just a tree rat but still....
I would say judging by all the feathers in that previous picture, and knowing how my old cat Smokey hunted and ate, all you saw was the kill site. The eating would have been done somewhere else. I think you can be certain that bird is D-E-A-D, Dead : P
Sounds like a pretty bird though. We get flicker's too but they're mainly grey with a black band on their neck and a bright orangie red chest patch. They are ground feeders, which as you say is dangerous around cats! : )
Dear Tricia,
This is my blog and my little world, and I say (in my own demented little brain) that the bird got away and lived happily ever after . . . without a few major wing feathers and soft belly feathers. Ok, without more than a few wing feathers . . . so, he walked away instead of flying. MY world, my rules. That damn bird is . . . alive . . . somewhere . . . somehow . . .(sniff, sniff)
